Chatverse is a mobile app that allows users to engage in random chat conversations with strangers in a visually immersive and gamified environment. Drawing inspiration from the universe, Chatverse aims to make social connection feel magical, safe, and meaningful, offering both fun and depth in human interaction.
I contributed to the product design and UX research for Chatverse, helping to shape the full user experience from onboarding through chat engagement.

Responsibilities
Conducting benchmarking, user interviews, and usability testing
Designing the core user flows for onboarding, matching, chat, and profile management
Mapping out information architecture and gamified UX paths
Designing safety features and moderation flows
Iteratively improving the product through user feedback cycles

The Challenge
Chatverse is designed for users who are curious about meeting new people, exploring different perspectives, and enjoying meaningful conversations. The audience includes individuals of diverse age groups and cultural backgrounds who value both safety and aesthetics in their digital interactions.
Through research and testing, we uncovered five primary problem areas:
Inappropriate content made users feel unsafe or uncomfortable
Poor match relevance frustrated users when paired with incompatible people
Privacy concerns regarding personal information
Unclear UI and navigation, especially for new users
Distrust in the authenticity of chat partners (fear of fake profiles or scams)

Research & Usability Testing
We ran usability tests with 5–8 participants who matched our user persona criteria (e.g. frequent chat app users, mobile-savvy). Our research methodology included:
Pre-Test Questionnaire: Assessed demographics and familiarity with chat app features (e.g. video, profiles, scheduling)
Scenario-Based Tasks: Participants completed key actions like starting a video call, editing profiles, reporting users, and scheduling a chat
Observation & Recording: We tracked pain points, navigation flow issues, and usability friction
Post-Test Feedback: Gathered Likert-scale ratings and open-ended feedback about overall satisfaction and feature utility
These insights drove iterative updates across UI and user flow design.

Design & Solutions
We addressed each problem area with targeted solutions:
Safety & Moderation
Built a robust content moderation system (AI + human review)
Enabled user-friendly reporting and blocking tools
Added trust signals (e.g. badges, verified user tags)
Smart Matching & User Control
Developed a matching algorithm based on interests, age, and availability
Let users set filters/preferences for more relevant matches
Allowed chat rating to improve future matches
Onboarding & Guidance
Designed an interactive onboarding experience with visual storytelling
Introduced a persistent task-based onboarding guide for new users
UX & UI Enhancements
Simplified navigation with clear iconography and gamified visuals
Improved chat room interface with immersive space-themed environments

Information Architecture
To ensure intuitive navigation, we structured the core app flows as follows:
Onboarding: Visual walkthrough of Chatverse and feature preview
Registration: Sign-up or anonymous entry with minimal personal info
Matching: Randomized chat based on preferences and presence
Chatting: One-on-one immersive conversations (text/audio)
Moderation: Report/block functionality, escalated review flow
Settings: Profile customization, feature management, privacy controls






Outcome & Learnings
Usability testing revealed a strong emotional connection to Chatverse’s immersive aesthetic
Users felt more confident using the app after UI improvements and trust signal enhancements
Chat matching satisfaction improved through personalization filters and feedback loops
Chatverse successfully bridged curiosity, conversation, and visual wonder, offering users a space to connect, feel safe, and explore the unknown.
